I swear I don't know how to rate it, so I'll alternate between a 3.5 and 4. I liked and disliked this book at the same time. This was one big train wreck that I didn't want to stop watching. I couldn't put the book down once I started it. Honestly, my nerves was a wreck. I couldn't help but be scared for Claire the whole time. The author is not graphic, IMHO, about the things that Anthony does but you get the point. He beats (he was so freaking abusive) and forces himself on her sexually. He convinces her this is to help her out with her financial troubles. His rules are just crazy which later, you understand why. His motivation for his elaborate plot is downright ridiculous and I couldn't find a redeeming quality about this man. I don't care if there is a HEA or not. I just need to know that some form of justice will come out it. Claire is a nut job. I understand that mentally she had to compartmentalize (the author used that word to much) what happened to her but there was a point when she needed to wake up. Anthony was crazy. There's no rationale for that. I figured out the connection about 75% in but I wasn't too sure and the ending threw me for a loop. Of course, I have to read book 2. I need to know what other crazy shit is going to happen next.
